An Exhibit and Worship Experience with Artist Timothy Orikri

There are moments when art does more than decorate a space. It opens a doorway.

This spring, First Presbyterian Church welcomes artist Timothy Orikri and his exhibit, The Threshold of My Dreams — a deeply personal collection of paintings exploring beauty, memory, justice, faith, imagination, and hope.

For Timothy, this exhibit is more than a gallery installation. It is an offering.

“These are essays, these are scripts, these are visions… You’re standing at the side of a doorway. I have not arrived. This is not the dream. You are peeking through and trying to find out what comes next.”

Rather than presenting finished answers, Timothy invites viewers into contemplation. His paintings blend vibrant color with stories of creation, culture, grief, resilience, and spiritual longing. Some works celebrate wonder; others challenge us to reflect on the divisions and wounds within creation itself.

Throughout the exhibit, visitors are encouraged not simply to “understand” the art, but to experience it.

In this opening segment, Timothy reflects on what it means to exhibit his work in a church community and explains the meaning behind The Threshold of My Dreams.

“Creativity shouldn’t be enjoyed only in museums and galleries. I want my work to be food for everybody.”

Timothy shares how faith shapes every part of his creative process and describes painting during worship as an act of preaching through color, movement, and imagination.

In one of the most powerful moments of the conversation, Timothy speaks about stewardship, justice, racism, and humanity’s responsibility to care for creation and one another.

Why contemplation matters more than explanation. Timothy invites viewers to experience art with openness, curiosity, and imagination.

Timothy passionately reflects on the church’s role in nurturing creativity, supporting artists, and helping people encounter beauty, hope, and healing.

Live Worship Painting Experience

As part of this special season, Timothy will also paint live during worship — creating artwork in real time as music, scripture, prayer, and proclamation unfold.

For Timothy, this is not performance. It is worship.

“Lord, I have a brush and it spills beauty. It spills repentance. It spills joy. It spills hope.”

The congregation will witness creativity becoming prayer, image becoming testimony, and art becoming another language for the Gospel.

An Invitation

Whether you consider yourself an “art person” or not, this exhibit offers an invitation to slow down, reflect, and see differently.

Timothy hopes visitors leave inspired — not only by the artwork itself, but by the possibility of creativity, healing, and hope within their own lives.

“If just one person comes to experience this joy, I have succeeded.”

We invite you to visit The Threshold of My Dreams, engage the artwork thoughtfully, and experience the ways creativity can deepen faith, conversation, and community.
