Mark Mares

Associate Pastor

Originally from Holland, Michigan, Pastor Mark grew up in a vibrant Puerto Rican Pentecostal community at Templo Jerusalen, Iglesia de Dios Pentecostal M.I.—a church planted by his grandfather in the 1970s. After earning his undergraduate degree from Hope College, Mark embarked on a journey of integrating his faith with his life experiences and relationships, eventually finding a spiritual home in the Reformed Church in America (RCA).

In 2017, Mark graduated with a Master of Divinity from Western Theological Seminary and was ordained in the RCA. He served four congregations in Upstate New York before being called to First Presbyterian Church of Ann Arbor in 2022. As an Associate Pastor, Mark works with youth, families, mission, and social justice ministries, bringing his passion for meaningful connection and service to the community.

Mark is an enthusiastic competitor and a devoted fan of Detroit sports teams and the University of Michigan. An avid reader, he has a special love for graphic novels and comics and enjoys discussing them over a cup of coffee or tea.
