Shayla Powell

Shayla directs choral music for grades 6–12 in Milan, where her students consistently earn top ratings and participate in State Honor Choirs. Many of her former students are now active in music careers. Shayla also founded the Ann Arbor Youth Chorale Descant Choir in 1992 and has taught classes and conducted choirs at the U-M Flint Junior Academy of Music since 1989. A BME graduate of U-M Flint, Shayla completed coursework toward a Master’s in Choral Music Education at Eastern Michigan University. An active performer, Shayla often collaborates with her husband, Gregg, a professional bassist.
